Marjan Modarresi
About Marjan Modarresi:
With more than three decades of experience, Modarresi has worked extensively as a studio instructor, curriculum developer, and mentor, teaching drawing, watercolor, mixed media, and design foundations to students of all ages in private studios, educational institutions, and cultural centers. Her teaching philosophy emphasizes rigorous technical training while encouraging individual creativity and artistic exploration.
Modarresi’s artistic practice centers primarily on watercolor, where she explores the interplay between realism and abstraction. Her paintings—often depicting still life and landscapes—are distinguished by their refined tonal transitions, delicate layering, and carefully balanced color relationships. Through subtle brushwork and controlled transparency, she creates compositions that appear simple yet reveal significant technical mastery and sensitivity to form, light, and atmosphere.
Over the course of her career, Modarresi has participated in more than 95 solo and group exhibitions both nationally and internationally. Her work has been featured in major art publications and is included in museum and private collections. She has received numerous awards and commendations, including First Prize at the Schmincke Painting Contest in Germany (1998) and Honorary Commendations from the International Watercolor Society (2017, 2018).
In addition to her artistic and educational activities, Modarresi has served as a jury member for international exhibitions, including the Fabriano International Watercolor Festival.
Her work continues to contribute to the evolving dialogue of contemporary watercolor painting through a balance of technical discipline and poetic visual expression.
