Sunflower

Sunflower is a restaurant befitting of its namesake. Dedicated to delivering excellence with a smile, Sunflower’s delectable dishes are made with enthusiastic care by the owners, Anh and Vinh.

Voted Best Vietnamese Restaurant by the Austin Chronicle for many years, Sunflower is known for authentic and flavorful dishes that remind Vietnamese people of home. The original Sunflower was opened in Austin by Anh’s mother, Ngọc, who owned and operated the restaurant until selling it in 2017.

Currently, Sunflower has bloomed once again under the family’s care, being operated by Anh and her husband, Vinh. Fortune had it that they were able to rehire the entire kitchen staff, so all the same traditional recipes, methods and techniques are alive and well in a new space.

So why the name Sunflower? When Anh was little and still living in Vietnam, the pathway leading to her grandparents’ home had huge sunflowers growing on either side. She was terrified to walk past them because she thought they would lean down and eat her. She cried every time she walked past them and everyone in the family teased her. It became a family joke that her mother kept alive with the name. These days, as Anh has gotten older, she’s learned to appreciate sunflowers for their bright color and happy vibes. Now they remind her of a big smiling face, and she hopes Sunflower radiates that same positive energy to her guests. Sunflower is excited to be back and grateful to have you along for the journey!
